Bergen en toppen in Sri Lanka. In de centrale en zuidelijke delen van Sri Lanka zijn er verschillende bergen en toppen die ecologisch van groot belang zijn en rijk aan biodiversiteit. Deze bergen worden bewaard als bossen en zijn de oorsprong van veel rivieren. De Sri Pada is de heilige berg van Sri Lanka, waar pelgrims het voetafdruk van Boeddha vereren.

Het Hill Country is uitzonderlijk mooi, met kristalheldere watervallen en theeplantages verspreid over het landschap. De temperatuur in deze regio blijft het hele jaar koel, met een sfeer die doet denken aan de vroege lenteochtend. Alles is groen en weelderig, en het landschap is verhoogd met lagen grasheuvels en steile watervallen, terwijl dichte bergbossen zich vastklampen aan de hogere hellingen. De dagen in het Hill Country verlopen rustig, met weinig anders te doen dan theedrinken (in overvloed) en de rust en adembenemende wandelingen en uitzichten in je op te nemen.

Er zijn verschillende kleine dorpjes die zeker een bezoek waard zijn, zoals Nuwara Eliya. Er zijn ook enkele majestueuze natuurwonderen om te verkennen, zoals World's End en Adam's Peak.

World's End ligt in het Horton Plains National Park, een glooiend hooglandgebied van graslanden, afgewisseld met bossen en ongebruikelijke hooggelegen vegetatie. De vlaktes reiken meer dan 2000 meter hoog, met de bergen Kirigalpotta en Thotupola Kanda die oprijzen aan de randen van het plateau. De meest indrukwekkende eigenschap van deze vreemde en stille wereld van de vlaktes is echter World's End, waar de vlaktes abrupt stoppen en je boven een steile afgrond van 880 meter hangt.

  • Reaching upto 2388m (7835 feet) above mean sea level, Kirigalpoththa Mountain in Sri Lanka looms in the district of Nuwara Eliya casting its shadow over the main city. This mountain is the second tallest of the island paradise Sri Lanka, and the tallest of the mountains in the island.

  • Totapolakanda is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka situated in Nuwara Eliya district 2,357 m above mean sea level. The mountain is located within the Horton Plains National Park. A trail to the top of the mountain, about two kilometres long, starts a few metres away from the Pattipola entrance to the Horton Plains National Park.

  • The most famous physical feature of Ceylon is Adam’s Peak, which is situated in the Ratnapura district. It is on the edge of the central massif but its surrounding group of mountains called the Wilderness of the Peak . It is about 7500 ft high and, though it is the second-highest peak in the land.

  • Bambarakanda Peak is located in theBadulla Districtof Sri Lanka, within theUva Province. It is part of the central highlands and is situated near the famousBambarakanda Falls, the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The area is renowned for its lush greenery, cool climate, and stunning natural beauty.

  • The Riverston Peak in Sri Lanka can be reached by travelling, about 30km away from the Matale town, down the Matale– Girandurukotte Road. This secretive windy road, with its sharp hairpin turns, offers some of the best views to the surrounding countryside; to the extent that it is called the Mini World’s End.
