Pidurangala Rock Temple, also known as Pidurangala Viharaya, stands on a massive rock structure a few kilometres from the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Its origins stretch back to the first and second century BC, when it served as a Buddhist monastery. The complex comprises five main ritual buildings: an ancient stupa, a chapter house, an image house, a preaching hall, and drip-ledged caves bearing inscriptions — all of which speak to centuries of religious life on this remarkable site.
