Diyavini Ella is a picturesque waterfall located in Diyawinna village, in the Ratnapura District of Sri Lanka’s Sabaragamuwa Province. Nestled in a lush, forested zone about 8 km east of Balangoda and south of Vikiliya, it combines natural beauty with cultural significance thanks to its proximity to the Devagiri Raja Maha Viharaya.

The waterfall is formed by the Diyawini Oya stream, which descends from the nearby hills to flow over a vertical cliff face of approximately 30–60 meters, creating a striking drop. The surrounding landscape includes dense vegetation, riparian forest, and mist-coated rock surfaces, providing habitat for diverse plant species and local wildlife.

Visitors to Diyavini Ella can access it via the Balangoda-Kapugala road, turning off at Godakawela toward Diyawinna. From the temple at Devagiri Vihara, a footpath leads to a viewpoint above the falls, and trails allow descent toward the base for those comfortable with more rugged terrain. The falls offer excellent opportunities for photography, nature walks, and quiet contemplation.

The best time to visit is during or shortly after the rainy seasons, when water flow is strong and the foliage is most vibrant. In drier periods, the stream is lower and certain paths may be less safe. Access is generally by road year-round, though weather and trail conditions should be checked in advance for safety and comfort.
