Dr. Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, auch bekannt als der Grüne Pfad, ist eine zweispurige Straße mit einem breiten, gepflegten Rasenstreifen und sorgfältig gepflanzten Palmen, die die Seiten voneinander trennen. Sie verläuft schnurgerade vom Kreisverkehr neben der Colombo Public Library bis zum Kreisverkehr am Alexandra Place. Diese gerade Straße ermöglicht es Fahrzeugen, den längeren Abschnitt des Albert Crescent zu umgehen und direkt zur Alexandra Road zu gelangen.

Zwar ist die Straße von ziemlich viel Grün umgeben, da dieses vor einigen Jahren im Rahmen des Stadterneuerungsprojekts angelegt wurde, doch die Wahrheit ist, dass Green Path nichts mit der Farbe Grün zu tun hat.

Es war lediglich ein einprägsamer Name für einen der berühmtesten Open-Air-Veranstaltungsorte in Colombo. Hier finden zahlreiche Veranstaltungen statt, darunter Food-Festivals, Messen, Musikkonzerte, gemeinnützige Initiativen und sogar Drag-Racing.

Diese Veranstaltungen können kostenpflichtig oder kostenlos sein und erfreuen sich aufgrund ihres Veranstaltungsortes großer Beliebtheit.

Außerhalb der Veranstaltungszeiten verwandelt sich der Green Path in eine Allee für Straßenkünstler und Kunsthandwerker, die ihre Werke ausstellen. Zahlreiche abstrakte Gemälde, mehrteilige Wandbilder, Ölgemälde und viele weitere Kunstwerke verschönern den Platz. Holz- und Metallhandwerker sowie zahlreiche andere Verkäufer von Kunsthandwerk bieten den Passanten ihre Waren feil. Da es sich bei den Produkten um Originale handelt und sie im Vergleich zu den Produkten im Laden deutlich günstiger sind, verdienen diese Straßenkünstler mit ihren täglichen Verkäufen recht gut.

About Colombo District

Colombo is the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, the capital city of Sri Lanka. About Western Province

The Western Province is the most densely populated province of Sri Lanka. It is home to the legislative capital Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte as well to Colombo, the nation's administrative and business center. Western Province is divided into 3 main districts called Colombo (642 km²), Gampaha (1,386.6 km²) and Kalutara (1,606 km²) districts.
