Zu den wenigen verbliebenen Bauwerken, die während des Königreichs Kotte aus Laterit errichtet wurden, gehört eines in Baddegana, die Ruinen von Vehera Kanda. Der Ort liegt etwa 4 km von Pitakotte Junction entfernt und kann über ein Labyrinth von Straßen erreicht werden.
Verbleibende Strukturen
Auf einer erhöhten, rechteckigen Plattform mit einer Höhe von etwa 5,5 Fuß befinden sich zwei Stupas, die von riesigen Na-Bäumen umgeben sind. Die Plattform ist 97 Fuß lang und 58 Fuß breit. Es gibt zwei Treppen aus Laterit; Der Weg führt zur Plattform und man kann direkt zu den Stupas hinaufgehen. Einer der Stupas ist groß und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 30 Fuß, der kleinere hat einen Durchmesser von 24 Fuß. Auf der linken Seite des Bauwerks sieht man das Fundament eines kleinen Schreins, in dem möglicherweise eine Buddha-Statue aufbewahrt wurde. Heute ist keine solche Statue mehr zu sehen. Das Gelände rund um die Plattform zeigt, dass es in der Nähe nur wenige andere Bauwerke gab. Man sieht allerdings nur die verstreuten Steine; Überreste dessen, was einst Teil einer viel größeren Tempelanlage gewesen wäre.
Geschichte
Wenn man die Gründe für den Bau dieses Bauwerks untersucht, deutet das Wort „Vehera“ in Vehera Kanda, das „Stupa“ bedeutet, darauf hin, dass es sich tatsächlich um einen Tempel handelte, zu dem Menschen kamen, um anzubeten. Die Überreste des Schreins selbst sind ein Beweis dafür. Professor Senerath Paranavithana vertrat jedoch eine andere Auffassung und widersprach der Theorie, dass es sich lediglich um einen Tempel handele. Nach seiner Theorie handelt es sich bei den Stupas um die Mausoleen von König Parakramabahu VI. und seiner Königin Ranmenika. Wenn das stimmt, wurden die Stupas später möglicherweise zu einer Kultstätte und erhielten den Namen Vehera Kanda. Einige Gelehrte glauben, dass es sich tatsächlich um einen Kovil namens Mahasen-Devarajapaya handelt, der dem Gott Kataragama gewidmet ist.

The great majority of Sri Lankan corporations have their head offices in Colombo. Some of the industries include chemicals, textiles, glass, cement, leather goods, furniture, and jewellery. In the city center is located South Asia's second tallest building - The World Trade Centre.
About Western Province
The Western Province is the most densely populated province of Sri Lanka. It is home to the legislative capital Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte as well to Colombo, the nation's administrative and business center. Western Province is divided into 3 main districts called Colombo (642 km²), Gampaha (1,386.6 km²) and Kalutara (1,606 km²) districts. As Sri Lanka's economic hub, all the major local and international corporations have their presence in the city and so do all the major designer and high street retailers, so be ready to indulge in some retail therapy in western province.
