Zesta Premium BOPF is a loose-leaf Ceylon black tea made entirely from Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings — a recognised grade of very small, finely broken tea leaf particles that sit between standard broken grades and dust in size. The 100g flexible pouch carries the Ceylon Tea Lion Logo, the Sri Lanka Tea Board's globally trademarked certification mark, which guarantees the tea is 100% pure Ceylon tea grown, processed, and packed in Sri Lanka. That single mark on the pack says a great deal about what is inside.
BOPF is prized for the way it behaves in the cup. Because the leaf particles are small and broken, they give up their character quickly, producing a deep-coloured, full-bodied brew in a short steep. Zesta's tea masters have blended this grade to bring consistency to every pot — the same bold character, the same depth of colour, whether you are making a brisk morning cup on its own or a longer, milkier brew for later in the day. The tea is a product of Watawala Tea Ceylon Ltd, Zesta's parent company and a name behind Sri Lanka's premium branded tea trade since the brand launched in 1998.
Brewing guidance is printed directly on the pack: one teaspoon for plain tea, two teaspoons when making milk tea, with a steep of two to three minutes before adding milk and sugar. These are practical, tested measures for a grade that infuses quickly — following them prevents the bitterness that comes from over-extraction. The label appears in English, Sinhala, and Tamil, reflecting the tea's Sri Lankan identity.
Once opened, the pack should be decanted into an airtight container and kept in a cool, dark place to preserve the freshness of the fannings. The 100g loose pouch is a convenient size for regular home use, giving enough tea for daily brewing without requiring bulk storage.
