About this experience

This seven-day private tour is designed as a relaxed, Halal-friendly introduction to Sri Lanka, covering Colombo's city landmarks, the ancient cave temples and rock fortress around Sigiriya, the wildlife of Minneriya National Park, and the hill city of Kandy with its botanical gardens. The pace is unhurried, giving travellers time to take in the island's culture and heritage without rushing between sights.

Highlights include the Jami Ul-Alfar (Red) Mosque and other colonial and civic landmarks in Colombo, the cave temples of Dambulla, the 5th-century Sigiriya rock fortress, an elephant-watching safari in Minneriya, a visit to the spring-fed Sembuwatta Lake, and a day exploring Kandy's streets, a Hindu temple and the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya.

Travel throughout is by private air-conditioned vehicle with a Lakpura chauffeur guide, who meets travellers on arrival and handles transfers between destinations each day. The itinerary allows flexibility for travellers to arrange Halal-certified accommodation and dining to suit their preferences, and there is no minimum age requirement, making it suitable for families and mixed-age groups.

Day 1 — Airport → Colombo

On arrival at Colombo International Airport, a Lakpura chauffeur guide meets you and transfers you to Colombo, where you check in and spend the evening exploring the city.

Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque (Red Mosque)

One of Colombo's oldest mosques, built in a city that has been linked to Arab traders since the 7th century AD, when Ceylon sat on the spice and silk trade routes. Many of the Islamic communities who settled near Colombo and Galle's ports have descendants living in these areas today.

Golden Temple of Dambulla

A complex of historic caves dating back to the 1st century BC, with ancient murals depicting the life of Lord Gautama Buddha and hundreds of Buddha and deity figurines across its five main caves. The visit takes in the Cave of the Divine King, the Cave of the Great King and the Great New Monastery, as well as the giant golden Buddha statue standing a short distance from the cave complex.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Known as the Lion Rock, the fortress is entered through a staircase framed by giant lion's paws. The climb passes the site's famous unfading murals, terraced gardens and still-working cisterns, before tunnels lead up to the remains of the palace at the summit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a private tour?

Yes. The tour is private to your group: your own air-conditioned vehicle and an English-speaking chauffeur guide for all 7 days, with no other travellers joining.

Where does the tour start and end?

Day 1 starts at Colombo airport (CMB) and day 7 ends at BIA. Every stop in between is reached by road in the same vehicle, so there is no other transport to arrange.

Are hotels included?

The base price covers the vehicle and chauffeur guide. In the booking box you can add hotels for all 6 nights at Budget (3★), Standard (4★) or Luxury (5★ and boutique) level, on half board. Hotels we hold contracts with for your dates are named in the price; for any other night our team books a hotel of the same class after you pay.

What vehicle will we travel in?

It depends on your group: a car for 1–2 guests, a van for 3–5, a large van for 6–8 and a bus for 9–15. Choose the number of guests in the booking box and the price updates to match.

Are entrance fees included?

Not in the base price. Set Tickets to Included in the booking box to add the entrance fees and safari jeeps for the sights on this itinerary; the booking box lists exactly which ones are covered.

Can we have a national guide?

Yes. A chauffeur guide is always included, and you can add a government-licensed national guide who travels with you for the whole tour. Choose it under Guide in the booking box; the vehicle is sized for the extra seat.

Can we change the itinerary or the dates?

Yes. Every tour is private, so it can start on any date you choose. To change stops, add nights or combine it with another tour, write to us in the booking notes or plan your own trip at lakpura.com/plan-your-trip.
