This full-day tour collects passengers directly from Hambantota International Port — known formally as Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port — and traces a circuit through some of the Southern Province's most distinctive natural and ecological sites before returning to the quayside. The port itself sets the tone: a deep-water, multi-purpose facility operated jointly by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and China Merchants Port, its ship-to-shore gantry cranes and open vehicle-storage yards make clear that this is a working port of genuine scale, positioned within ten nautical miles of the global east-west shipping lanes.
The first stop is the Mirijjawila Dry Zone Botanic Gardens on Garden Lane — the largest botanic garden in Sri Lanka by extent and the first to be established specifically in the island's dry zone. Administered by the Department of National Botanic Gardens, the gardens were opened in November 2013 and are laid out across a vast flat terrain, with formal ornamental areas featuring intricate grass-and-sand pattern designs, open-sided pavilions, and long avenues of mature trees. The gardens were conceived for the conservation of dry-zone plant species, the study of arid-zone ecosystems, and the promotion of eco-tourism, and they reward unhurried exploration on foot.
From the gardens, the tour moves on to the Birds Park and Research Centre in Nagarawewa, which the park describes as Asia's largest birds park and research centre — a claim made by the operator itself. Spread across 35 acres, the park houses over 180 varieties of birds, including critically endangered and endemic species of Sri Lanka and Asia, as well as flightless birds such as ostriches and emus. A free-flight aviary allows some species to move at liberty through the enclosures, and an active breeding programme for rare birds runs alongside the visitor experience.
The itinerary rounds out with a visit to Madunagala Hot Water Spring, a natural geothermal site near Hambantota, and a stop at Hambantota Beach on the southeastern coast, before passengers are returned to the port. Throughout the day, transport is provided in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur guide, and a litre of bottled mineral water per person is included, along with all taxes and service charges. Entrance fees to individual sites, meals, gratuities, and personal expenses fall outside the arrangement and are settled separately.
