This nine-day tour is built around Sri Lanka's dragonflies and butterflies, tracking them from the wetlands on Colombo's doorstep through rainforest, hill-country gardens and national parks, down to Kandy's forest streams before finishing on the west coast. It moves from Colombo to Sinharaja, on to Embilipitiya and the Lunugamvehera area, up into Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains, across to Kandy, and finally to Negombo for a last day by the sea ahead of departure.
Travellers get a close look at a genuinely species-rich island: around 243 butterfly species and skippers are recorded in Sri Lanka, with migrations occurring seasonally, and even the wetlands near Colombo hold roughly 50 species on their own. Along the way the route also takes in UNESCO sites such as Sinharaja Rain Forest and the Temple of the Tooth Relic, plus botanical gardens, waterfalls and viewpoints, so the trip works as a wildlife-watching itinerary as much as a general tour of the hill country and cultural sites.
The tour runs throughout with a private vehicle and an English-speaking chauffeur guide, who handles the driving and logistics between sites each day.
