Yala Elephant is a low-grown OPA grade Ceylon black tea from the Ceylon Elephant range of Battler. It is named after Yala in southern Sri Lanka, best known for its national park and wild elephants.
OPA is a long, wiry leaf, and this tea brews a dark, robust cup with an earthy depth. It is packed in a tin caddy and sold in two sizes; pick one above.
In the pack
- 100g loose leaf OPA in a tin caddy
- 200g loose leaf OPA in a tin caddy
- Ingredients: pure Ceylon black tea, OPA grade
- Shelf life: 3 years from packing
Tasting notes
Robust and earthy, with a dark liquor, malty notes and a brisk finish.
How to brew
- Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup.
- Pour on freshly boiled water.
- Steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain.
Serving ideas
Takes milk well for a strong breakfast cup. The long leaves need room, so brew it in a pot and give it the full 5 minutes.
