Matara City
Matara is a major city in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It's known for its beautiful coastal scenery, historical significance, and cultural heritage. The city is located about 160 kilometers south of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Matara has a rich history, with colonial influences from the Portuguese, Dutch, and British, and it's home to several historical landmarks, such as the Matara Fort and the Star Fort.
ミリッサ・サムドラギリ・ヴィハラヤ

この時代にキャンディアン王国の統治下にあったすべての寺院は、すべての寺院の壁画にほとんど変化がなく、定義された芸術スタイルに従っていましたが、低地地方の芸術家たちはこれらの壁画に自由にスタイルの変更を導入しました。
寺院内で最も優れた壁画は、内室の外側の壁にある像の家にあります。壁はいくつかのストリップに分割されます。一番上の帯には、シッダールタ王子のさまざまな人生の出来事が描かれています。下の帯にはさまざまなジャータカストーリーが描かれています。
カンティワディ ジャタカヤ、ササ ジャタカヤ、サマ ジャタカヤ、クルダンマ ジャタカヤ、デヴァダンマ ジャタカヤが壁に描かれているのが見つかります。クルダンマ・ジャタカヤは他の人物と比較してより顕著な地位を与えられています。壁画は濃い赤の背景に描かれています。
著名な考古学者セナカ・バンダラ教授によると、ヴェヘラガラ・サムドラギリ・ヴィハラヤ・イメージハウスの壁画はユニークだという。寺院の壁画には、低地に伝わるマタラの芸術スタイルがはっきりと表れています。 18 世紀から 19 世紀に海岸線に建てられた寺院のほとんどはロココ様式の芸術様式の影響を受けていましたが、ここは低地のマタラ様式の芸術様式を使用した、保存状態の良い壁画が数多く見られる数少ない寺院の 1 つです。
伝統的なキャンディアン スタイルの壁画は、限られた範囲の明確に定義された色を使用し、背景に赤を使用します。マタラスタイルの壁画は、より幅広い色を使用し、背景に黒などの他の暗い色を使用します。これらの壁画では、キャンディアン スタイルの壁画で使用される花だけではなく、花に加えて葉や枝も背景を埋めるために使用されています。人物の布や頭飾りも異なり、ヨーロッパの影響が見られます。
イメージハウスの内室への入り口は3つあります。各入口には龍のアーチのレリーフが飾られています。弥勒菩薩の絵の周りに 1 つの龍のアーチが彫刻されています。内室の壁は、アルハス、神々、天国、地獄の絵で飾られています。

About Southern Province
The Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of the districts of Galle,Matara and Hambantota. Subsistence farming and fishing is the main source of income for the vast majority of the people of this region.
Important landmarks of the Southern Province include the wildlife sanctuaries of the Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, the holy city of Kataragama, and the ancient cities of Tissamaharama, Kirinda and Galle. (Although Galle is an ancient city, almost nothing survives from before the Portuguese invasion.) During the Portuguese period there were two famous Sinhalese poets called Andare who was from Dickwella and Gajaman Nona who was from Denipitiya in Matara District, composing poems on common man.
