Annona muricata (Soursop)

  

Annona muricata, commonly known as soursop or “??? ?????” in Sinhala, is a tropical fruit-bearing tree native to Central and South America and widely cultivated in Sri Lanka. It is recognized for its large, spiky green fruit with soft white pulp and a distinct sweet-sour flavor.

The fruit is rich in vitamins C and B, fiber, and antioxidants, and is often consumed fresh or used to prepare juices, smoothies, and desserts. In traditional medicine, various parts of the plant—including the leaves, bark, and seeds—are used for their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and sedative properties.
