The genus Garcinia, belonging to the family Clusiaceae, encompasses over 250 species of evergreen trees and shrubs native to tropical regions of Asia, Africa, Australia, and Polynesia. These plants are characterized by their leathery leaves, solitary or clustered flowers, and fleshy fruits containing multiple seeds. Many species within this genus are dioecious, meaning individual plants are either male or female, and some exhibit apomictic reproduction, allowing them to produce seeds without fertilization.
