Dumbara Kithul Treacle with natural vanilla, in a 250ml glass bottle. Dumbara adds vanilla to its kithul treacle, the thick amber syrup boiled from the sap of the wild kithul palm, for a softer, rounder taste alongside the usual notes of dates and caramel.
The sap comes from the fishtail palm (Caryota urens), tapped by hand in the forests and home gardens of Sri Lanka's wet zone. Tappers cut the flower stalk and collect the sap daily, and it is boiled down slowly to make the treacle, known in Sinhala as kithul pani.
