Matara City
Matara is a major city in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It's known for its beautiful coastal scenery, historical significance, and cultural heritage. The city is located about 160 kilometers south of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Pothotuwa Teeplantage
Die 1989 gegründete Teeplantage Pothotuwa liegt in Beralapanathara im agroklimatischen Distrikt Deniyaya in Sri Lanka auf einer Höhe von 480 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel. Die Plantage produziert jährlich rund 1 Million Kilogramm Tee und ist von der Rainforest Alliance und der Ethical Tea Partnership zertifiziert, was ihr Engagement für nachhaltige und ethische Teeproduktionspraktiken widerspiegelt.
Unter der Leitung des renommierten Teeproduzenten Anil Alwis hat sich das Pothotuwa Tea Estate einen Namen für seine hochwertigen Tees gemacht. Das Anwesen genießt in der Teebranche hohe Anerkennung und sicherte sich bei der Veranstaltung „Outstanding Tea Producers“ der Tea Exporters Association im Jahr 2023 den zweiten Platz in der Region Ruhuna.
Das Gut ist auf die Produktion von Premium- Schwarztees spezialisiert, insbesondere auf den Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings Extra Special (FBOPF Ex Sp). Diese Tees zeichnen sich durch kleine, gleichmäßige, tiefschwarze, gekräuselte Blätter mit silbrigen Spitzen aus und ergeben einen kräftigen, frischen und hochkonzentrierten Aufguss mit Aromen von Pflaume, Schwarzkirsche und Malz. Dank dieses kräftigen Profils schmeckt der Tee sowohl mit als auch ohne Milchzugabe.

About Southern Province
The Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of the districts of Galle,Matara and Hambantota. Subsistence farming and fishing is the main source of income for the vast majority of the people of this region.
Important landmarks of the Southern Province include the wildlife sanctuaries of the Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, the holy city of Kataragama, and the ancient cities of Tissamaharama, Kirinda and Galle. (Although Galle is an ancient city, almost nothing survives from before the Portuguese invasion.) During the Portuguese period there were two famous Sinhalese poets called Andare who was from Dickwella and Gajaman Nona who was from Denipitiya in Matara District, composing poems on common man.
