Danagirigala Rajamaha Viharaya liegt auf einem abgelegenen, schönen Berg vor Mawanella. Es wird angenommen, dass das Heiligtum im ersten Jahrhundert von König Walagamba erbaut wurde. Die Steingravuren an der Stätte datieren diesen Heiligtumskomplex in eine noch frühere Zeit – in die vorchristliche Zeit. Um zum Heiligtum zu gelangen, müssen Sie 367 Felsstufen erklimmen.

Sie können vier Buddha-Statuen in sitzender Haltung und sechs stehende Buddha-Statuen entdecken, die alle noch den ursprünglichen Kandyan-Stil bewahren. Darüber hinaus befindet sich im Inneren auch eine acht Fuß hohe Statue von Lewke Dissawe.

Danagiragala Rajamaha Viharaya gilt als einer der ältesten Einstürze im Kegalle- Gebiet. Früher war es als „Waddamana Pabbatha“ bekannt.

Die Schnitzereien , Modelle und Kunstwerke , die nach und nach im Inneren des Heiligtums zu sehen sind, zeugen von der Kandyan-Zeit.
