Lakpura Heen Bovitiya Plant

Heen Bovitiya (Osbeckia octandra) is a medicinal plant native to Sri Lanka, widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for treating liver disorders and managing diabetes. This erect plant features a slender, hairy stem rising above the soil, while a well-developed root system anchors it below. Its alternating dark green leaves, approximately 5 cm long, are rough-textured due to the presence of fine trichomes, especially dense on the lower surface. Each leaf exhibits a prominent midrib flanked by two veins, all aiding in efficient nutrient transport. The plant blooms with striking pinkish-purple flowers, each showcasing five smooth petals and yellow pollen at the center, attracting pollinators. Heen Bovitiya’s leaves, flowers, stems, and roots are all valued for their therapeutic properties, making it a vital component in natural healing practices.
