மத்திய மாகாணம் பற்றி

இலங்கையின் மத்திய மாகாணம் முதன்மையாக மலைப்பாங்கான நிலப்பரப்பைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இந்த மாகாணம் 5,674 கிமீ² பரப்பளவையும், 2,421,148 மக்கள்தொகையையும் கொண்டுள்ளது. கண்டி, கம்போலா (24,730), நுவரெலியா மற்றும் பண்டாரவேலா ஆகியவை சில முக்கிய நகரங்களில் அடங்கும். மக்கள் தொகை சிங்களவர்கள், தமிழர்கள் மற்றும் சோனகர்களின் கலவையாகும்.

மலைத் தலைநகரான கண்டி மற்றும் நுவரெலியா நகரம் இரண்டும் மத்திய மாகாணத்திலும், ஸ்ரீ பாதத்திலும் அமைந்துள்ளன. மாகாணத்தில் உள்ள அனைத்து காபி தோட்டங்களையும் ஒரு பேரழிவு நோய் கொன்ற பிறகு, 1860 களில் ஆங்கிலேயர்களால் பயிரிடப்பட்ட பிரபலமான சிலோன் தேயிலையின் பெரும்பகுதியை இந்த மாகாணம் உற்பத்தி செய்கிறது. கண்டி, கம்போலா, ஹட்டன் மற்றும் நுவரெலியா போன்ற மலைவாசஸ்தல நகரங்களுடன் மத்திய மாகாணம் பல சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகளை ஈர்க்கிறது. கோயில் பல் அல்லது தலதா மாலிகாவா சென்ட்ரல் மாகாணத்தின் முக்கிய புனித இடமாகும்.

காலநிலை குளிர்ச்சியாக உள்ளது, மேலும் 1500 மீட்டர் உயரமுள்ள பல பகுதிகளில் பெரும்பாலும் குளிர்ச்சியான இரவுகள் இருக்கும். மேற்கு சரிவுகள் மிகவும் ஈரப்பதமானவை, சில இடங்களில் ஆண்டுக்கு கிட்டத்தட்ட 7000 மிமீ மழை பெய்யும். கிழக்கு சரிவுகள் மத்திய வறண்ட மண்டலத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாகும், ஏனெனில் வடகிழக்கு பருவமழையால் மட்டுமே மழை பெய்யும். கண்டியில் 24°C முதல் கடல் மட்டத்திலிருந்து 1,889 மீ உயரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள நுவரெலியாவில் 16°C வரை வெப்பநிலை நிலவுகிறது. இலங்கையின் மிக உயரமான மலைகள் மத்திய மாகாணத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளன. நிலப்பரப்பு பெரும்பாலும் மலைப்பாங்கானது, ஆழமான பள்ளத்தாக்குகள் அதில் வெட்டப்படுகின்றன. இரண்டு முக்கிய மலைப் பகுதிகள் மத்திய மலைத்தொடர் மற்றும் கண்டியின் கிழக்கே நக்கிள்ஸ் மலைத்தொடர் ஆகும்.
