About this experience
Looking for something sporty to get the adrenaline going? This private mountain-biking tour from Galle is more demanding than a regular ride and suits avid cyclists, those who cycle as a sport or fitness routine, and long-distance off-road riders. You meet your English-speaking guide at the designated meeting point for a short briefing and are given bottled water, a helmet and a 10-speed alloy-frame Jaguar racing bike suited to varied terrain. Start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat.
The route heads into the heart of the south along country lanes and river banks, past lakes with views of mountain ranges, green paddy fields, cinnamon plantations and rubber estates, to a working tea plantation in Akuressa, crossing quiet villages where you see local life. On request you can stop at roadside stalls for fresh king coconut and tropical seasonal fruit. The whole ride is about 94 km and takes three to seven hours depending on your pace, so you need to be fit and healthy, and the minimum age is 18. Your guide, helmet and bike, water and refreshments, and all government taxes and service charges are included. Meals, gratuities, personal expenses and transport between your hotel and the meeting point are not included. Confirmation comes within 48 hours of booking.
