A short English-language title from Godage International Publishers, written by Dr S. Terrence G. R. de Silva. The subtitle — The Spiritual Healer Turned Killer — points to the figure at its centre, a man named Mathew whose work as a healer is set against the act that defines him.
Godage is an established Colombo publishing house issuing books in Sinhala and English across fiction, history, religion and popular non-fiction, and much of its English list consists of slim volumes of this kind, written for Sri Lankan readers and sold mainly within the island. Books like this one rarely circulate outside local bookshops, which is the main reason to pick one up when you see it.
Because it is written in English, no knowledge of Sinhala is needed. It will suit readers who follow Sri Lankan writing in English, anyone drawn to stories about faith, healing and the people who claim authority over both, and collectors building a shelf of contemporary Godage titles that are hard to find abroad.
