A mix of whole black and white peppercorns from Uva, packed by Malwatte in a 50g glass shaker bottle. The label reads Uva Black and White Peppercorns, All Natural.
Both corns come from the same vine, Piper nigrum. Black peppercorns are picked unripe and dried in their dark skins, which gives a sharp, resinous heat. White peppercorns are left to ripen longer and have the outer skin removed before drying, giving a cleaner, more floral bite. Malwatte Valley Plantations has grown pepper since 2011, and the maker says the International Pepper Community named it Sri Lanka's largest pepper grower in 2016.

In the kitchen
Pour the mix into a pepper mill and grind it over grilled meat, eggs, salads and soups, or crush it coarsely for a steak crust. The whole corns can also go straight into stocks, braises and pickling liquids.
Storage
Keep the cap tightly closed and store the jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Labels in this range say to use the contents within 60 days of opening.
