Experience:

Located in the historic city of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka, Kaudulla National Park offers travelers abundant opportunities to spot majestic elephants in their natural habitats. In addition to elephants, you may also see sambar deer, Sri Lankan axis deer, chevrotain, wild boar, Asian spoonbill, grey-headed fish eagle, painted stork, and openbill stork. Rare sightings may include leopards and sloth bears.

Going on a bumpy ride through the evergreen forest along small trails is a great adventure that wildlife enthusiasts can't resist. The Kaudulla reservoir, which is the park’s lifeline, attracts herds of elephants during the dry season from nearby Minneriya, Wasgamuwa, and Somawathiya National Parks.

June to September is the best time to visit Kaudulla, when the park also offers opportunities for paddle boat rides and birdwatching at close range.

The contrast of the thin green line of distant trees, blue sky, silvery reservoir, and emerald grasslands against the black elephants creates a stunning and memorable sight for travelers.

Capture this blissful experience worry-free with us. We promise the best rates and a safe, smooth Kaudulla safari adventure.

Elephant Migration between Minneriya, Kaudulla and Hurulu Eco Park

There are three national parks in close proximity within that region. They are, (A) the Kaudulla National Park(B)the Hurulu Eco Park, and (C) the Minneriya National Park. All of the three parks are immensely popular among locals and foreigners the world over for their large herds of elephants. Generally, each year during the months of July to September large groups of elephants are found in the Minneriya National Park and then they migrate to Kaudulla National Park during the months October to November due to high rains and lakes getting filled up. Then the elephants move on to Hurulu Eco Park for the final leg of their migration during the month of December to January.
