Surechani Kalka is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation made by Gampaha Wickramaratchi Siddhayurveda Aushada Company (Pvt.) Ltd., a Sri Lankan family firm with four generations of Ayurvedic practice behind it. The company was founded by Pandith G.P. Wickramarachchi (1889–1975), an Ayurveda practitioner to whom the Government of Sri Lanka awarded the title 'Ayurveda Chakravarthi Raja Vaidya'. His institution, established in 1929, later became affiliated with the University of Kelaniya as the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute.
In Ayurvedic pharmacy, a Kalka is one of the five classical dosage forms, alongside juice extract, decoction, cold infusion, and hot infusion. It takes the shape of a paste or compressed bolus — firm enough to hold its form, but not dry — prepared by grinding herbs until any fibrous matter is removed and the mixture can be formed into the bolus properly. The product arrives as a single dark-coloured compressed oval mass inside a clear resealable pouch.
The four ingredients listed on the packaging are Terminalia chebula, identified on the label by its Sinhala common name Aralu; Senna alexandrina, known in English as Indian senna; Senehe Syrup; and Raisins. Terminalia chebula is a deciduous tree native to South Asia, including Sri Lanka, and has featured in Ayurvedic, Siddha, and Unani traditional medicine for over two thousand years. Senna alexandrina belongs to the family Fabaceae, with leaves and pods that have long held a place in classical herbal preparation.
The manufacturing facility holds GMP certification number 0712, and the company controls the production process from sourcing through to distribution. The majority of herbal ingredients are drawn from local Sri Lankan suppliers. Each pouch carries printed fields for date of manufacture, expiry date, and batch code, which are completed at the time of production.
The packaging directions state clearly: 'Use as directed by Physician.' This preparation should be taken only under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic or medical practitioner. The product is available in two pack sizes — 50 g and 100 g — allowing a practitioner to advise on the appropriate quantity for individual use.
