Enrich Keeri Samba Rice is a 1kg pack of Sri Lanka's smallest-grained samba rice, packed in Sri Lanka by Enrich Tea & Food Exports and labelled on the front as Sri Lankan Superior Keeri Samba. It is the rice many Sri Lankan households keep back for the meals that matter, when the grain itself is meant to be noticed.
Keeri samba is a short, fine, rounded grain, noticeably smaller than ordinary samba and firmer in the hand. Cooked, it stays separate with a soft bite and a gentle, grainy fragrance that fills the kitchen. The pack lists a single ingredient: keeri samba rice.
In Sri Lanka it is the classic choice for biryani, for lamprais and for festive rice dishes, and it sits just as comfortably beside an everyday rice and curry. Because the grains keep their shape, it also takes well to fried rice and to being served alongside seafood curries.
The packer's own method is simple. Wash the rice 2-3 times, then cook 1 cup of rice with 2 to 2½ cups of water in a medium saucepan or rice cooker. Bring it to the boil, turn the heat to its lowest setting and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, then take it off the heat and leave it to steam for another 12 minutes before serving.
The pack states that it is produced under HACCP and ISO 22000 food safety systems. Once opened, keep the rice in a cool, dry place, ideally in an airtight jar.
