강가라마야 사원은 콜롬보에서 가장 많이 방문되는 사원으로, 매년 스리랑카에서 가장 크고 화려한 베삭 축제를 개최합니다. 이 사원은 1885년에 존경받는 히카두웨 스리 수만갈라 나야카 테라에 의해 설립되었으며, 당시 스리랑카는 식민지 지배를 받던 시기로, 불교와 문화의 부활이 필요했던 시기였습니다.

한때 비에이라 호수 옆의 늪지대였던 이곳은 이제 사원, 호수를 내려다보는 회의 홀, 직업 훈련 기관을 포함하는 상징적인 복합 단지로 변모하였습니다. 예전에는 신도들이 비에이라 호수를 배로 건너야 했지만, 그 후 이 사원은 데분다라 스리 지나라타나 나야카 테라에 의해 지금의 모습으로 변화되었습니다. 그는 히카두웨 스리 수만갈라 나야카 테라의 제자였으며 사원의 주임으로 임명되었습니다.

연례 페레헤라

사원의 박물관은 벤. 스리 지나라타나 나야카 테라에 의해 종교적, 문화적, 역사적 가치가 있는 유물들을 수집하기 위해 시작되었으며, 벤. 갈라보다 그난니사라 나야카 테라의 도움으로 상당히 발전하였습니다. 이 박물관에는 다양한 전통에서 온 가치 있는 부처님 동상들, 고대 올라 잎에 쓴 글, 고대 동전, 차량 및 기타 유물들이 전시되어 있으며, 이는 전통과 문화를 대표하는 고전적인 전시입니다.

About Colombo District

Colombo is the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, the capital city of Sri Lanka. The great majority of Sri Lankan corporations have their head offices in Colombo. Some of the industries include chemicals, textiles, glass, cement, leather goods, furniture, and jewellery. In the city center is located South Asia's second tallest building - The World Trade Centre.

About Western Province

The Western Province is the most densely populated province of Sri Lanka. It is home to the legislative capital Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte as well to Colombo, the nation's administrative and business center. Western Province is divided into 3 main districts called Colombo (642 km²), Gampaha (1,386.6 km²) and Kalutara (1,606 km²) districts.
