Commonly known as Venivel or Venivelgeta (Coscinium fenestratum) in Sri Lanka and also known as Yellow Vine or Tree Turmeric in English around the world, this is an important herbal plant that is used in traditional medicinal practices such as Ayurveda. The roots and stem of the creeper is mainly used in various herbal concoctions while it is mainly paired with Coriander seeds. Venival, when boiled exudes a yellowish tint while it is treasured for its anti inflammatory properties.
Venivel has the potential to offer relief for colds, fever, skin diseases, wounds, pains, ulcers and even tetanus. It may also regulate blood sugar levels too. The taste of venivel is bitter but many people endure it due to its wholesome goodness.
