仮面作りは、スリランカの特定の家庭で代々受け継がれてきた伝統工芸です。これらの家庭の職人たちは、長年にわたりこの技術を磨き上げ、精巧な木工模様、装飾技法、そして鮮やかな色彩を巧みに組み合わせ、最高の仮面を生み出してきました。

ラクシャ仮面は、飛び出た目と色鮮やかな装飾が施された、精巧に彫刻された異国情緒あふれる悪魔の仮面です。ガラ・ラクシャ仮面はガラ・ヤカとも呼ばれ、悪霊を追い払うために、また様々な浄化の儀式や悪魔祓いの儀式において、病人を癒すために用いられる多くの伝統的な仮面の一つです。しかし、現在では、収集価値のある芸術作品として、あるいは伝統的な舞踊のショーケースとして用いられています。悪魔の王を表すと言われるガラ仮面は、鮮やかな色彩で彩色され、3つの蛇の頭頂部が冠のように飾られています。これらは、人々に害を及ぼす悪意ある力と戦うのに役立つと信じられており、文化的な儀式に不可欠な要素とされています。

5. Masks are made from acrylic paint on goda kaduru (strychnine tree) wood.
6. All masks are to be used as home decor items and not to wear for traditional kolam dancing. If you require wearable masks, you will need to order a specific type with spaces / gaps for the mouth, eyes and proper breathing. Custom made wearable masks can be ordered separately upon request and proper measurement.
