Experience:

You will begin your Hiriwadunna Village tour at 11:30, where you’ll receive directions to the village and meet your tour guide at the starting point. The tour will kick off around 11:45 with a 15-minute oxen cart ride, a traditional mode of transport in Sri Lankan villages. The cart ride will take you through scenic paths, ending at the banks of an artificial reservoir.

Following the oxen cart ride, you will embark on a peaceful 15-minute catamaran ride across the reservoir. As you glide along, keep an eye out for the rich variety of aquatic and plant life, and you might even spot a crocodile or water monitor. Birdwatchers will also enjoy seeing cormorants and other local waterbirds.

Afterward, you’ll return to the village, where a local resident will guide you through a traditional cooking demonstration. For 30 minutes, you’ll learn how to prepare authentic Sri Lankan dishes, with the opportunity to try your hand at cooking a dish yourself using locally sourced ingredients.

At 12:15, you’ll sit down to enjoy a delicious buffet-style lunch of freshly cooked rice, six varieties of traditional Sri Lankan curries, fried fish, green salad, and crispy papadum. The meal will be served on woven trays lined with clean lotus leaves, and cooked traditionally in clay pots over wood fires.

After lunch, take some time to relax and explore the village at your leisure. The tour concludes at 13:30 at the Hiriwadunna Village square, where your guide will wrap up the experience.
