Lakpura Innala

Commonly known as Innala (Coleus rotundifolius / Plectranthus rotundifolius ) in Sri Lanka and native potato or country potato in other regions of the world, this is a perennial herbaceous belonging to the mint family. The plant is cultivated mainly for its edible tubers.

Innala is consumed in Sri Lanka for its nutrients while its known to be lower in starch compared to manioc. An egg shaped tuber, Innala is smaller than modern potato varieties. Locals typically boil them while it may also be roasted or baked. There is even a lovely curry that you can enjoy. Their flavour is quite on the bland side but sweeter than some varieties.

Potential health benefits of Innala include aiding in heart health by maintaining healthy blood pressure levels, dysentery, digestive problems, respiratory problems and skin care related issues.
