Kegalle City
Kegalle City is a scenic town in Sri Lanka, known for its rich natural beauty, rubber plantations, and cultural heritage. Dedigama Suthighara Stupa
Suthikagaraya bedeutet Geburtsort. Königin Rathnavali brachte an diesem Ort einen kleinen Jungen zur Welt. Aus diesem Jungen wurde später Parakramabahu der Große (1153-1186).
Dieser Stupa wurde keiner größeren Renovierung unterzogen, aber bei Ausgrabungen stellte sich heraus, dass er auf einem anderen, kleineren Stupa errichtet wurde. Der kleinere Stupa wurde näher am Pesa Walalu auf der Ostseite gefunden. Er hatte einen Durchmesser von 36 Fuß. Es wurde festgestellt, dass beide Stupas etwa zur gleichen Zeit erbaut wurden.
Man geht davon aus, dass die kleinere Stupa genau an der Stelle errichtet wurde, an der die Geburt stattfand. Anschließend wurde eine größere Stupa um sie herum errichtet. Der Durchmesser der größeren Stupa beträgt 78 Meter, die Höhe 14 Meter. Die Spitze der Stupa ist flach und bedeckt etwa 2.400 Quadratmeter.
Obwohl nicht bekannt ist, welche Reliquie in dieser Stupa aufbewahrt wurde, wurden in den zehn Reliquienkammern zahlreiche Reliquien gefunden. Die bedeutendste davon ist die metallene Elefantenlampe.
