About this experience
You drive into Wasgamuwa National Park alongside the Mahaweli — Sri Lanka's longest river — where dry tropical forest opens onto water pools and wide, unbroken scrubland. This is elephant country: the riverine terrain draws them into the open, and the same pools harbour mugger crocodiles, water monitors and pythons, while aquatic birds gather along the margins. Away from the water, the forest shelters leopard, sloth bear, purple-faced langur monkey, wild boar, sambar, spotted deer and water buffalo. Your driver doubles as your tracker, cutting the engine when it counts and reading the bush so you don't have to.
Your jeep is private — no shared departures, just your group of up to six passengers. Choose a 3-, 6- or 9-hour safari to match your schedule, and select whether to include park entrance tickets with your booking or pay cash at the gate; either way, the full jeep is yours. A guide is available as an optional extra, sharpening every sighting into a proper briefing. Lakpura also offers free pickup and drop-off from any location within 5 km of the park gate. Wasgamuwa pairs naturally with the nearby ancient cities and makes a straightforward addition to any cultural itinerary in the region.
