Rolled cinnamon quills, packed by Malwatte in a 20g glass shaker bottle. Quills are made by peeling the thin inner bark of the cinnamon tree and rolling the layers into sticks that dry into firm, papery tubes.
Malwatte grows cinnamon on its own estates in Sri Lanka and processes it at its cinnamon factory on the Talduwa division of Vincit Estate. Sri Lankan cinnamon is the thin-barked, delicately flavoured kind often sold as Ceylon cinnamon.
In the pack
- 20g cinnamon quills
- Glass jar with a black screw cap
In the kitchen
Add a short piece of quill to the oil when starting a curry or pilau, simmer it in milk puddings and fruit compotes, or stir mulled wine, tea and hot chocolate with it. Remove the quill before serving.
Storage
Keep the cap tightly closed and store the jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
