Desiccated coconut from Bowatte: the white flesh of mature coconuts, grated and dried until most of the moisture is gone. It is crisp, snow-white and dry to the touch, with a mild coconut taste, and keeps far longer than fresh grated coconut.
What is in it
- Grated, dried coconut kernel (Cocos nucifera)
How it is used
Used in baking and confectionery, in cakes, biscuits and Sri Lankan sweets such as coconut toffee, and sprinkled over desserts as a garnish. It can also stand in for fresh grated coconut in some curries and sambols after a short soak in warm water.
In the pack
200g of desiccated coconut.
Storage
Once opened, move it to an airtight container and keep in a cool, dry place.
