If you are holidaying in Negombo, Lakpura offers you the chance to visit these gentle giants at the Millenium Elephant Foundation which is a charitable organization that has been set up to rescue and care for captive Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. Located in a 15-acre estate, it is a sanctuary to offer medical aid to the elephants that are in need.

The Experience:
You will begin your tour exactly by 7.00 am where you will be picked up from your hotel in Negombo. You will be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle with the services of an English-speaking chauffeur/guide. Kindly ensure that you bring a packed breakfast with you if you are unable to have an early meal at your hotel. You will reach the Millennium Elephant Foundation at 9.30 am.
The Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) is a family run non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to improving the welfare of domestic elephants throughout Sri Lanka. The foundation provides and funds the care, medical treatment, food, mahout salaries, the running costs of the charity as well as having an on-call mobile veterinary unit that travels around the country treating sick elephants in need.
Tourists can observe and walk with the elephants here at the foundation as well as assist with their feeding and the daily washing activities that is carried out at the Kuda Oya River that runs through the grounds of the sanctuary. The elephant walk experience is another alternative to elephant riding for tourists, which is a more ethical, up close and personal experience for guests.
Once the scheduled activities end, we can start our journey back to Negombo. Guests have the option of enjoying lunch enroute or somewhere closer to the foundation, at their own expense. You will be dropped at your hotel in Negombo at 3.00 pm.

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for this tour.
Drive time may change due to unpredictable road traffic.
Photography stops on the way can be arranged but within locations with reasonable parking areas.
Tickets to the foundation can be purchased through Lakpura by clicking the ticket option. If you select the no ticket option, tickets have to be purchased by the guest at the time of arrival at the foundation.
