Birdwatching at Udawalawe National Park from Mount Lavinia

This tour takes you on an unforgettable journey through the dense tropical jungles of Udawalawa as you explore it in search of rare birds. Catch glimpses of bright plumage amongst the greenery and try to identify them. Also, get a chance to see some of the other wildlife.

Experience:

Morning leave for Udawalawe (Four hours drive and recommended departure time from Mount Lavenia 07.00 a.m.). Your English-speaking birding guide will meet you there. Bring sufficient water for the hike, and don’t forget your binoculars. If you are a photography enthusiast, it would also be a good idea to bring your camera with the flash disabled.

Lunch at hotel near National park. Subsequently an afternoon visit to Udawalawe National Park on jeeps, the park consists of dry grassland, scrub and forest, looking for open country and grassland birds including some endemics and also butterflies, Asian Elephant and other forest mammals, and other wildlife.

Notes:

Comfortable clothing. Hardy hiking shoes appropriate for trudging in mud. A wide-brimmed hat or billed cap to keep off the sun.
