Kanchanara Guggulu is a classical Ayurvedic tablet formulation produced by Pasyale Ayurveda Osu (Pvt) Ltd, a Sri Lankan manufacturer with roots going back to 1960. The tablets are made to a traditional polyherbal composition in which two ingredients give the formulation its name: Kanchanara, the stem bark of the Bauhinia variegata tree, and Guggulu, the purified oleo-resin of the Commiphora tree. These are joined by a further range of botanicals drawn from the classical Ayurvedic repertoire, making this a well-structured compound preparation rather than a single-herb product.
The full composition brings together around twelve distinct plant-derived ingredients. Alongside the two principal components, the formulation includes three fruits that together form the well-known Ayurvedic trio of Haritaki, Bibhitaka and Amalaki — the pericarps of Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellerica and Phyllanthus emblica respectively. The spice group contributes Zingiber officinale rhizome, Piper nigrum fruit, and Piper longum fruit. Rounding out the blend are Crataeva nurvala stem bark, Elettaria cardamomum seeds, Cinnamomum zeylanicum stem bark, and Cinnamomum tamala leaves. The Guggulu resin used is in its purified form, known as Guggulu-Shuddha, consistent with classical preparation standards. This formulation is listed in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.
The tablets are produced at Pasyale's facility on Dalupitiya Road, Mahara, Kadawatha — a suburb in Sri Lanka's Western Province. The site is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and GMP standards, as stated on the packaging, and the product carries Ayurvedic registration number Ayu. Reg. No. 6/2/1/2/7. The name appears on the label in three scripts — English, Sinhala (කාඤ්චනාර ගුග්ගුලු) and Tamil (காஞ்சநார குக்குலு) — reflecting the multilingual tradition in which Ayurvedic knowledge has been carried across South Asia.
The tablets are dark and round, supplied in clear plastic bags. The pack is available in several sizes — 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg — so it can be purchased in smaller quantities for personal use or in larger quantities for ongoing household supply. The dosage printed on the packaging is 2 to 4 tablets, taken twice daily. As with any Ayurvedic preparation, it is advisable to consult a qualified practitioner before beginning use.
