Mlesna Monk's Blend Tea is one of the flavoured Ceylon teas from the Colombo tea house Mlesna, packed as 10 luxury tea bags in a small orange carton. The front carries its French name too, Thé des Moines, and describes it as A Speciality Tea.
The side panel sets out what it is in the maker's own words: garden fresh fine Ceylon tea processed with natural flavour extracts, to give an aromatic tea that is delightful and crisp. The artwork shows two robed figures seated over a teapot and cups, a scene that matches the name on the box.
Mlesna lists this pack as Monk's Blend Tea in its Luxury Foil Envelope format, 10 tea bags holding 20g of tea in all. Each bag sits in its own foil envelope, which keeps them separate and makes them easy to slip into a bag or share one at a time.
The Mlesna brand was launched in 1983 by Euro-Scan Exports (Pvt) Ltd of Colombo, with a range of blended and flavoured Ceylon teas presented in gift packaging. Monk's Blend is also sold by the maker in a 30-bag carton and as loose leaf, so this 10-bag box is the smallest way to try it.
