モルディブ（正式名称：モルディブ共和国）は、アジアのインド亜大陸に位置するインド洋の島嶼国家です。モルディブは世界で最も地理的に分散した主権国家の一つであり、陸地面積ではアジア最小の国です。人口は約557,751人で、アジアで2番目に人口の少ない国です。マレ は首都であり最大の都市で、伝統的に「王の島」と呼ばれ、古代の王朝がその中心的な位置から統治していました。

地理

モルディブは1,192のサンゴ島から構成され、26の環礁からなる二重の列に分かれています。北から南へ871キロメートル、西から東へ130キロメートルに広がり、約90,000平方キロメートルに分布していますが、そのうち陸地はわずか298平方キロメートルです。これは世界で最も分散した国の一つです。位置は南緯1度から北緯8度、東経72度から74度の間にあります。環礁は生きたサンゴ礁と砂州で構成され、インド洋の深海から急激に隆起する全長960キロメートルの海底の尾根の上に位置し、北から南へ伸びています。

気候

モルディブはケッペンの気候区分による熱帯モンスーン気候（Am）に属し、北側に広がる南アジアの大陸の影響を受けています。世界で最も標高の低い国であるため、気温は年間を通して高く、湿度も高いのが特徴です。この大陸の存在により陸地と海水の温度差が生じ、インド洋から南アジアへ湿った空気が流れ込み、南西モンスーンが発生します。モルディブの気候は主に2つの季節に分かれ、北東モンスーンによる乾季と、強風や嵐をもたらす南西モンスーンによる雨季があります。

スキューバダイビング

モルディブは世界有数のダイビングスポットであり、もし一度体験するならここが最適です。認定を持っていない場合でも、手頃な価格のPADIダイビングセンターで体験ダイビングが可能です。また、多くのリーフで様々なダイビングツアーに参加できます。エイやジンベエザメ、リーフシャーク、ウミガメなど、豊かな海洋生物が生息しています。透き通る青い海は視界が非常に良く、水温も暖かいためウェットスーツは不要です。これは間違いなくモルディブでの最高の体験の一つです。
