Kunudiya mountain
Kunudiya Parwathaya (also known as Kunu Diya Mountain) is a striking rock peak in Sri Lanka’s hill country, often encountered along the trekking routes toward Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak). Its sharp rock faces and pointed geometry make it a prominent landmark within the Peak Wilderness zone.
The mountain is surrounded by montane forests rich in ferns, mosses, shrubs, and canopy trees. It supports a variety of forest birds and small mammals adapted to highland conditions. Weathered rock surfaces foster unique microhabitats for lichens and epiphytic plants, enhancing the site’s ecological significance.
Adventurous hikers incorporate Kunudiya into longer treks, using portions of the trail to observe dramatic views, geological formations, and forest scenery. The climb involves rugged terrain and steep climbs, rewarding trekkers with panoramic vistas over ridges and valleys toward Sri Pada and adjacent hills.
The best time to visit is during dry seasons when trails are safer and visibility is clear. During heavy rains, paths may become treacherous and access can be limited. The mountain is accessed via forest tracks linking from established Sri Pada or Kuruwita routes, and local guidance is recommended for navigating the terrain.
