About this experience
A chauffeur-driven standard car rental gives you a private, air-conditioned vehicle and an English-speaking driver for the duration of your time in Sri Lanka, without any of the paperwork or unfamiliarity that comes with self-driving on the island's roads. The car seats up to two adults with luggage, making it a practical choice for a couple or a solo traveller who wants space to spread out. Your chauffeur handles navigation, timing and local knowledge, leaving you free to look out of the window.
Lakpura's standard car fleet includes compact sedans — frames from real journeys show vehicles such as a Toyota Premio alongside other models at this tier, and the exact car assigned depends on availability at the time of travel. All vehicles are air-conditioned. The Lakpura-branded door sticker on each car means fellow travellers and hotel staff can identify your ride at a glance, which proves useful at busy drop-off points and after a long flight.
Each day's service runs for eight hours, generally between six in the morning and eight in the evening, and your chauffeur is expected to be punctual throughout. A cumulative kilometre allowance is built into the booking and scales with the number of days hired: the first day covers 180 km, the second day adds 160 km (340 km in total), the third adds 140 km, the fourth adds 120 km, and from the fifth day onward each day adds 100 km. A nine-day rental, for example, yields 1,100 km in total. Any kilometres beyond the included allowance, and any hours beyond the standard eight, are billed at published rates.
The mileage count works differently depending on where your journey is based. For travel within Colombo, counting starts at your first pick-up and ends at your final drop-off, with a small additional allowance billed for the chauffeur's journey between the garage and your location at either end. For travel outside Colombo, the standard count begins and ends at Colombo Fort; if your trip starts or finishes at a different point, a customised arrangement can be requested. Days are counted on a calendar-day basis regardless of what time the service begins or ends.
Lakpura is a Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority-licensed travel agent and has carried Public Liability Insurance covering all guests since the company was established in 2008. The service is entirely private — no shared vehicles, no other passengers. Overnight accommodation for the chauffeur is not included in the rental, though many hotels provide it as a matter of course; where they do not, a modest nightly fee is payable directly to the driver. Food, drinks, entrance fees and personal expenses fall outside the arrangement as well.
