Experience:

You will be starting your cycle ride from Kandy City at approximately 0930 hrs. As part of your tour package, you will be provided with mountain bikes, helmets and unlimited water for the tour. Your cycling guide will accompany you and help manage the route to avoid inconveniences.

Your cycling route will take you on a scenic journey through the mountains. You will see pretty, colorful villages and leafy green carpets of tea. You will pass down into valleys and over hills; and see the mists clear to reveal wondrous sights before you.

Along the way you will visit the historic Rock Temple spend a few minutes there. You may also see the miniature tunnel created by the British near Kadugannawa.

When you go further on you will stop at the Balana Pass. The Balana Pass was the location of a fierce and bloody battle approximately 200 years ago. The pass along with the fortress which provides a good lookout point, was able to keep both the Portuguese and Dutch at bay, and with a few clever tactics the Kandyan Kings were able to keep their kingdom free. However at the beginning of the 19th century the British launched simultaneous invasions on all routes into Kandy and captured it. Balana pass, which was the narrowest and most protected, was the last to fall.

You will be able to visit and see the crumbling battlements of the Balana fortress. Your guide will tell you its stories as you look at the overgrown fort and let you imagine the blood that soaked its walls centuries ago.

After viewing the fortress and pass you will be biking to the Balana Railway station and boarding the 1258 hrs train back to Kandy. Not counting the train journey; the cycling trails takes approximately three and a half hours to get to Balana. You can view the passing sights from the train. Once you get back to Kandy city; your tour will be completed.
