Very safe and generally clean unless the local fishermen have just pulled in one of their nets, then there will be jellyfish around for a bit.

Ideal place for relaxing and swimming
Beaches like Nilaveli and Uppuveli are frequently praised. They tend to be more peaceful than the more crowded south coast beaches in Sri Lanka. White sand, clear turquoise waters — ideal for relaxing and swimming.
