About this experience
You drive into Wasgamuwa National Park alongside the Mahaweli — Sri Lanka's longest river — where dry tropical forest opens onto water pools and wide, unbroken scrubland. This is elephant country: the park is one of the island's strongholds for these animals, and the riverine terrain draws them into the open. The same pools harbour mugger crocodiles, water monitors and pythons, while aquatic birds gather along the margins. Away from the water, the forest shelters leopard, sloth bear, purple-faced langur monkey, wild boar, sambar, spotted deer and water buffalo. Your driver doubles as your tracker, cutting the engine when it counts and reading the bush so you don't have to.
Your jeep is private — no shared departures, just your group of up to six passengers. Lakpura offers three safari durations (3, 6 or 9 hours) so you can match the drive to your schedule. When you book, you choose whether to add park entrance tickets or pay for them in cash at the gate; either way, the full jeep is yours. You can also add a naturalist guide as an optional extra on top of the jeep, which sharpens every sighting into a proper briefing.
