About this experience
Minneriya National Park sits on Sri Lanka's North Central Plains, where tropical dry forest gives way to open grassland around the ancient Minneriya reservoir. Your driver-tracker navigates 15 kilometres of tracks through this terrain in a private 4×4 jeep, cutting the engine when it matters and reading the bush for movement. Elephants are the park's signature draw — herds migrate between Minneriya and two neighbouring reserves, and the reservoir's shoreline grasslands are where you find them gathering in numbers that make this one of Asia's most celebrated elephant spectacles. Alongside them, the park holds monkeys, sloth bear, mongoose, spotted deer, sambar deer, water buffalo, porcupine, and the rarely glimpsed Indian pangolin.
Your Lakpura booking reserves the entire jeep for your group — up to six guests, one private three-hour safari. At checkout, choose between two ticket options: "Jeep with No Tickets" if you prefer to purchase park entrance at the gate yourself, or "Jeep with Tickets" to have them included and skip the queue. Either way, you can add a professional naturalist guide as an optional extra on top of your jeep — a worthwhile addition if you want deeper context on the wildlife and habitat around you.
