Sigiriya Entrance Tickets

Sigiriya Rock Fortress, rising dramatically from the plains of Matale District, is among Sri Lanka's most celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Known also as Lion's Rock, the site encompasses an ancient rock fortress and palace complex built by King Kashyapa, whose reign left behind an extraordinary collection of ruins, ornamental gardens, and the famous mirror wall that once reflected the entire western face of the rock.

The climb takes visitors past the renowned frescoes painted into a sheltered gallery on the rock face — vivid, centuries-old figures that remain among the finest examples of ancient Sri Lankan art. Higher up, the remains of Kashyapa's summit palace offer a wide panorama across the surrounding jungle and countryside. A visit with a knowledgeable local guide brings the layered history of the site to life, from its origins as a monastic refuge to its transformation into a royal citadel.

A typical visit runs to around three hours. It is advisable to arrive in the early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are more comfortable and the light is particularly well suited to exploring the rock and its gardens.
