Calypso Tourist Train

  

The Calypso Train is Sri Lanka's newest rail marvel, offering an exciting trip through the hill country. It runs daily from Badulla to Bandarawela via the picturesque location of Demodara, making it a comfortable and stylish way to explore the scenic landscape.

Train number 1232 departs from Badulla at 8:20 A.M., then arrives at Demodara around 9:10 A.M., followed by Ella at 9:28 A.M., and reaches Bandarawela by 9:58 A.M. After a stop of approximately 30 minutes at Bandarawela, the train departs again at 10:30 A.M., reaches Ella at 11:14 A.M., and returns to Demodara by 11:39 A.M. During the trip, there is a 10‑minute stop at the iconic Nine Arches Bridge.

The return journey is on train number 1234, leaving Demodara at 12:50 P.M., arriving in Ella at about 1:30 P.M., and reaching Bandarawela by 2:00 P.M. The train waits for about 30 minutes before departing Bandarawela at 2:35 P.M., then heads to Ella (3:08 P.M.), Demodara (3:35 P.M.), and finally arrives back in Badulla around 4:12 P.M. This return leg also includes a 10‑minute stop at the Nine Arches Bridge.
