About this experience
Kaudulla National Park sits within the Polonnaruwa District and is widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka's finest destinations for elephant sightings. During the dry season, hundreds of elephants converge around the park's central tank — one of the more remarkable wildlife spectacles the island has to offer. Beyond the elephants, a varied landscape of grasslands, wetlands and forest supports populations of deer, birds and other fauna throughout the year.
Timing makes a considerable difference to the experience. Early morning and late afternoon are the recommended windows for a safari, when wildlife is most active and the light is at its most favourable. A typical visit runs to around three hours, which allows sufficient time to cover the key areas of the park at a measured pace.
Citizens of SAARC member countries are eligible for a discounted entrance rate upon presenting a valid passport at the point of purchase. Tickets booked through Lakpura can be arranged online, with physical tickets available on request for those who prefer them.
