About this experience
Hiriketiya Beach is a hidden gem on Sri Lanka's southern coast — a little rounded bay backed by a curving stretch of palm trees and thick jungle foliage, full of local surfers, tucked-away guesthouses and easy-going cafes. This private tour carries you from that laid-back shore up towards the highlands of Ella, with a safari at Udawalawe National Park along the way.
Picked up at noon in an air-conditioned vehicle, you travel inland to Udawalawe, known for its dense population of Sri Lankan elephants. A four-hour safari led by a seasoned tracker brings herds grazing in open grassland, along with water buffalo, crocodiles, deer and a plethora of birds. Afterwards you press on to Ella through highlands of waterfalls, rivers, tea plantations and forest-covered hills.
