NHRC Elephant Oil Lamp - Dedigama

(SKU: LSB1000DEA) Dedigama is world-famous for its elephant lamp. This is a hanging lamp of a unique design with an oil-regulating device. A metal elephant figure stands hollow in the midst of a circular oil lamp with several wicks. The elephant's right front leg is lifted a few millimeters, and the foot has a hole in it. By removing the elephant, oil is poured into the elephant's hollow, the circular base of the lamp is filled with oil, and the elephant is put in the middle of the lamp. This clever invention is built on hydrostatic principles. This unique archaeological exhibit reveals the advanced high level of technical development during King Parakramabahu's reign.
