Set aside as a wildlife sanctuary in the 1970s, Udawalawe National Park is celebrated for its Sri Lankan elephants and abundant water birds. This tour brings its unspoiled tropical wilderness within easy reach of the south coast — your English-speaking chauffeur collects you from your Ahangama hotel and drives you inland to the park gate, where a safari jeep and driver-tracker are waiting.

The three-hour jeep safari takes you through the park's marshes, forests and grasslands in search of the elephants for which Udawalawe is famed. Along the way you'll catch glimpses of its other residents too — mammals and birds alongside reptiles, amphibians and butterflies — before returning to your vehicle for the drive back to Ahangama.
